In fact, my doctor actually had a copy of this Playboy sitting on the counter. I said, "Hey Doc, why's this here?" To which he replied, "I'm a dentist, I'm a glutton for pain. Now, you read it as I warm up the drill. Until then, you need some Novocaine from this giant needle?" "Nah," I said, flipping through the pages, "I've pretty much gone numb from this torture. Shania Twain to Guest Judge on American Idol

Earlier this month we reported Paula Abdul’s departure from American Idol, and a couple days later two judges, Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry, that would be brought on as guests to help fill the void. Fox has announced that Shania Twain will be joining them.

Twain will be a guest judge on August 30th and 31st in the Chicago audition rounds. I missed that earlier this week, Fox also announced that Mary J. Blige will also be appearing as a guest judge.

American Idol is set to return for its ninth season in 2010.

Tyra Banks strips in New York

Former model Tyra Banks has stripped - sort of - to promote the upcoming season of her talk show.

Posing in New York’s Union Square, Banks stripped to promote the move of The Tyra Banks Show to the CW network - the same network that airs Banks' America’s Next Top Model reality TV contest.

Tyra stripped down to her knickers, actually a body suit, and said her new season would be about "celebrating inner and outer beauty and owning and rocking what you’ve got".

Banks has always been outspoken about women's body images and the media's perception of them.

A few years ago, several celebrity publications ran some rather unflattering pictures of Banks in a bathing suit.

Afterward, she went on her own media campaign to respond, saying things to the effect of, "so what. I am who I am, and this is the body I have."

Banks will go another step further for the show's September 8 premiere.

She will take the weave out of her hair and appear au naturel. "No fake hair," Banks said in a release promoting the show.

"I'm rocking my REAL hair."

What the Kiwi gossip mags say

Starving for food, hungry for love and desperate for fame, the heavyweights of the Kiwi gossip trade have gone all Hollywood.

New Zealand's tabloid magazines have opted for celebrity fodder from further afield this week with an emaciated Victoria Beckham, eternal singleton Jennifer Aniston and irritating earth mother Angelina Jolie taking centre stage.

Woman's Day posts a skeletal Beckham cloaked in a purple sheath on its front cover. Praying mantis-like Posh has apparently shocked onlookers - yet again - with her frighteningly thin frame.

But don't worry, Beckham reveals she doesn't really have a eating disorder.

"I was never anorexic, I was never bulimic, but I was probably very close to it.

"I could tell you the fat content and calorie content of absolutely anything. I was obsessed. I began living on vegetables and nothing else. I used to chop up bowls of spinach and carrots and steam them or I'd just eat peas."

Phew, as long as you're eating peas you must be doing okay.

Elsewhere, the picture editor at New Idea must have shrieked with glee when she first spied this week's cover shot: Everyone's favourite girl next door, Jennifer Aniston, is spotted crying in public.

Luckily NI is here to tell us what prompted the outburst. Evidently Aniston has now reached "the lowest point in her personal life" and is struggling after being left on the shelf by legions of leading men.

"I'm not going to ignore the pink elephant in the living room. If I'm the emblem for 'This is what it looks like to be the lonely girl getting on with her life'', so be it", Aniston said.

The mag reveals that in 2005 Aniston said: "There's an amazing man wandering the streets right now who's the father of my children. In five years time, I'd hope to be married and have a kid."

NI brings her crashing back to earth. "Sadly, four years on, the dream is still eluding her", the magazine intones.

The mag sounds like a grandmother in a bad mood.

Over at Woman's Weekly Aniston's famous foe Angelina Jolie is "starved for love". She's probably just starving for some carbohydrates.

This perpetual hunger has allegedly been kick-started by her man hunk Brad Pitt's waning love for her.

Pitt told reporters that "children ... wasn't really what I was seeking" and his life with Jolie had its "aggravations and irritations".

And this week's local cringe inducing story has to go to NI's exclusive "shock confession" from TVNZ broadcaster Paul Henry.

Henry confesses his "love" for former adversary, ex-Prime Minister Helen Clark, and shares the romantic details of the day he and Clark spent together in the Big Apple.

The pair went to the Statue of Liberty, wore matching foam hats, shared burgers at a diner and went to an off-Broadway play before devouring a pizza over a "few bottles" of red wine, Henry told NI.

"She bought me a ticket to the play and we had most extraordinary conversations during the intermission, and then over pizza afterwards. It was a wonderful night"

Um does Clark's hubby Peter know about this?

Finally, the quote of the week comes from former Spice Girl turned aerobics instructor Mel B.

The mother of two began slimming down for the US Dancing with the Stars show which somehow led to her releasing a range of exercise videos.

But Mel B says her "amazing shape" is due to another kind of workout - having sex with her husband Stephen Belafonte five times a day.

"I'm a nymphomaniac. It's all-over body conditioning, after all."

There is such a thing as TMI, Mel.

Jennifer Lopez is Still Figuring Marriage Out

Jennifer Lopez knows her marriage to Marc Anthony isn’t perfect but she’s working on it!

“I’m still figuring it out as I go along,” the 40-year-old mom of twins reveals. “How do two totally different people come together and make one life and say they’ll do it forever and ever? I mean, I’ve tried it. This is my third time. I don’t even think I tried in my other marriages, which was immature and not knowing better. … I believe that in life you learn through experience. I’m old enough to know now that relationships take work. That it’s not an easy thing. We’re always together. … I respect him so much.”

Britney Spears blesses us with several more bikini photo ops

Britney Spears got such rave reviews with her first round of bikini shots that she’s conveniently decided to bare a her body again just a few days later. Brit notoriously gained a good deal of weight during her breakdown, but she’s worked incredibly hard to shed the pounds. In fact she looks a-mazing, so it’s no surprise she wants the paparazzi to see, especially given how eagerly they snapped all those bad photos of her. And Brit’s not the only one who’s changed her look – sons Jayden and Sean lost several inches of hair this weekend!

Britney Spears’ adorable sons Sean Preston and Jayden James managed to steal the spotlight from their famous mother with their new haircuts yesterday. Spending a family day by the pool in Los Angeles, the boys looked unrecognisable after their bowl cuts were shaved off to reveal a buzz cut. With Sean, three, and Jayden, two, fast approaching their birthdays next month, it looks like their parents Britney and Kevin Federline may have decided it was time to update their look.

The lookalike siblings, who are exactly a year apart in age, looked even blonder than usual without their formerly heavy fringes covering their delicate features. Fortunately it was only the boys getting their heads shaved this time, after their mother previously shorn off her blonde locks during her high-profile meltdown in February 2007. Despite not having reached nursery age, it appears the young boys are growing up to be quite the cool pair as they wore sunglasses and baseball caps to protect themselves from the sun.

Older brother Sean was wearing a pair of orange swimming trunks, while his younger sibling looked more colourful in a pair of navy, orange and green trunks. They also wore silver chains with pendants of their initials on, to help people tell them apart. Clearly revelling in spending time with her beloved boys, Britney spent the day playing in the pool with Sean and Jayden.

The 27-year-old singer looked determined on catching maximum sun as she showed off her curvy figure in a green bikini. Still learning to swim, both boys were wearing arm bands to keep them afloat at the pool at the five star Ritz Carlton Hotel in the LA seaside suburb of Marina Del Rey. Clearly taking after their mother, both boys have grown up comfortable in the spotlight… It was the second day in a row Britney spent relaxing at the Ritz Carlton. On Saturday, she and a female friend spent the afternoon drinking cocktails at the resort and chilling out in the jacuzzi. Her choice of swimwear was a lot more eye-catching too - she wore a hot pink bikini to complement her light golden tan.

You’ve got to give Britney credit for how great she looks. The boys look cute too, though I did sort of adore their little bowl cuts. The close-cropped hair and quasi-bling reminds me of their dad a bit. K-Fed’s sort of this gentler, wider version of his former self, which is endearing in a way. But old K-Fed was super annoying with his ridiculous outfits and man-bling. There was something so charming about Sean and Jayden’s bowl cuts. They’re cute either way, especially with their water wings and pool toys. It looks like Britney genuinely enjoys spending time with them, and is at a great point in her life.

Will Jessica Simpson replace Paula on ‘American Idol’?

Page Six is reporting that Jessica Simpson is being pushed by her father, Joe Simpson, as Paula Abdul’s replacement on American Idol. We’ve already heard rumors that Victoria Beckham wants to be more than just a one-time judge - so is this a battle royale between Posh and Jess? Which one knows more about the music industry? Which one would give better advice? Actually, putting Jessica on to replace Paula might be sort of brilliant. Instead of Paula’s cracked-out comments and slurred speech, we could have Jessica’s epic malapropisms and ditzy/drunk comments. It might work!

USA Today got ahold of Redskins quarterback Colt Brennan to ask him if last week’s report that he and Jessica were dating was true. Colt says no way - but he’s sort of charming about it, telling the newspaper, “My life coach, (Redskins TE) Chris Cooley, said that I should neither confirm nor deny it. But me being an honest guy, I have no idea what that’s about.” He actually sounds half-way interested. Jessica should go for it!

In one last piece of Jessica Simpson news, Nick Lachey’s brother Drew told Us Weekly that a Nick and Jess “Newleyweds Part Deux” reunion was not in the cards:

Sorry, Newlyweds fans: Nick and Jessica won’t ever get back together. Asked at Saturday’s Los Angeles Lakers 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament if they’ll ever reunite, Drew Lachey told Usmagazine.com: “On the record or off the record? No on both.”

Nick and Jessica - who split in 2006 - recently ended relationships around the same time. Nick and Vanessa Minnillo called it quits this summer, shortly before Tony Romo dumped Jessica before her 29th birthday in July.

When told that people want to see Nick and Jessica back together, Drew told Us, “I think everybody who was a fan of The Newlyweds wants the same thing.”

Jessica recently told Vanity Fair she hadn’t spoken to Nick “in years.” But she said their MTV reality show helped her realize the importance of good relationships.

“It made me understand what marriage is, what love is, what commitment is,” she said. “In all honesty, I believe it did not affect our marriage. Because we enjoyed watching those episodes, and that will always be a time I cherish.”

Yeah, I really don’t think Nick wants to go there again, and he’s probably been very vocal about it to friends and family. Thankfully, Nick has been pretty gracious in public - although I would love to hear his take on Papa Joe. You know Nick has a ton of Papa Joe stories, and they’re probably all disgusting.
