Lay Me Down Softly ? review
Tricycle, London
Billy Roche made his name with the unforgettable Wexford Trilogy. But while his new play deals with a rundown roadshow in a manner reminiscent of Brian Friel's Crystal and Fox, and has moments of poignant lyricism, it depends too much on off-stage action and rarely achieves the riveting immediacy of Roche's famous portrait of Wexford life.
It's the early 1960s, and the setting is the boxing booth of an itinerant carnival that's come to rest in small-town Ireland. Everything has a dilapidated feel, from the broken turnstile to the relationship between Theo, the roadshow's owner, and Lily, his abrasive cashier. Two unexpected arrivals spark the drama into life: one is Theo's long-abandoned daughter, the other an old pro who takes on the challenge of Theo's resident scrapper to fight all comers.
However, we never get to see either of the play's two boxing bouts, which, after Roy Williams's vivid Sucker Punch, feels a let-down. This typifies a work in which too much of the action happens elsewhere and the dramatic momentum is delayed while characters reminisce about the past. This leads to passages of fine writing, such as when Theo recalls his father's East End boxing club, or when Lily relives her origins in a one-horse Irish town called Knocknanoo. But although, in drama, the past should always influence the present, it should never become the main source of theatrical interest. Admittedly, Roche directs his own play with an atmospheric feel for time and place and there are strong performances from Gary Lydon, with his Brendan Behan profile, as Theo, Simone Kirby as his quarrelsome lover, and Michael O'Hagan as his mysteriously loyal sidekick. I enjoyed the acting, even if the play itself lacks the muscular tension of real drama.

Liam Gallagher has been unfairly maligned. Barely a week goes by without someone having a pop at his loutish boorishness or patented Manc swagger. Only this morning, his brother Noel admitted "I hadn't had enough of Oasis, I'd had enough of Liam" ? a sentiment possibly shared by millions who bought Oasis' era-defining Definitely Maybe but who have yet to be tempted by Beady Eye. Meanwhile, news of Noel's imminent solo album, High Flying Birds, seems to have sent Twitter into something approaching meltdown, suggesting a forthcoming battle between the Gallaghers for the nation's hearts may be a bigger ruckus than the one where Noel attacked Liam with a cricket bat, or the one where Liam precipitated Noel's exit from Oasis by attacking him with a guitar.
Is Noel really that much more interesting than Liam? It's starting to resemble the old Simon and Garfunkel situation where fans had their loyalties stretched between the one who wrote the songs, and the one who made a better job of signing them. For me, Liam makes the better rock star. Noel's live gigs to date have involved a bloke, a stool and a guitar, which admittedly may be all you need when you've written a song such as Don't Look Back in Anger (or, indeed, the lesser-known Rockin' Chair, my own personal favourite Oasis track.
But even now, to see the younger Gallagher, Liam, preening, posturing and singing his heart out in front of a packed crowd is to experience the increasingly rare thrill of primal rock'n'roll. And while Beady Eye's album may not have been a Definitely Maybe, it had its moments, some better than anything Oasis had done for donkeys.
Which is where things get interesting, because according to insiders, Noel has been stockpiling his best songs for years. Indeed, one of them, I Want to Live in a Dream in a Record Machine, dates from Oasis' sessions for Dig Out Your Soul. But seems to have mysteriously been pulled at the last minute. Both Gallaghers have long been accused of being musically conservative, but Noel is planning two solo albums (one a collaboration with Amorphous Androgynous, the former genre-busting Future Sound of London), and the mind may boggle at the prospect of his recordings with the Crouch End Festival Chorus ? an orchestra founded in 1984 ? or New York-based the Wired Strings, 30 musicians who have collaborated with everyone from Massive Attack to Barry White to, er, Stereophonics and the Spice Girls.
Perhaps, like Simon and Garfunkel, it's a shame such a historically important pairing can no longer work together, but then Oasis had been in decline for years. Conversely, we may just get one Gallagher you'd want to see live, and another to play at home. Or you may decide you've had enough of them, and listen to something entirely different. Rescue Me Final Season Premier Preview | Can Tommy Gavin Survive?
When “Rescue Me” premiered in 2004, it seemed to capture something about the continuing impact of 9/11 that had been missing from dramatic television. Born in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks and out of star and co-creator Denis Leary's fascination with firefighters, Rescue Me now begins a nine-episode final run that will conclude, fittingly enough, close to the 10th anniversary of that national catastrophe.
The final season focuses on Veteran Firefighter Tommy Gavin dealing with his 9/11 sightings along with the hatred he has for the civilians, politicians, and journalists making money off the memory of 9/11. The network later shifted the timeslot to Wednesdays, moving the season premiere to July 13 and the finale to September 7, 2011.
Meanwhile, Callie Thorne says to the PEOPLE, she can more than hold her own with the guys. But when the cast filmed the final season, the gang of tough guys softened up.
"The final days of Rescue Me were terrible," she says. "There were a lot of tears. Especially when people heard, 'That's a series wrap on Denis Leary.' A lot of the guys got really choked up."
FX announced on August 28, 2009,[citation needed] that it would end the series in 2011 after seven seasons and 93 episodes. The final episode is scheduled to air September 7, 2011.

'We're (AnnaLynne and I) both busy and we're both focused on our work,' Kellan said on Ryan's KIIS FM breakfast show.
'I'm really busy, I don't know if I can say I'm enjoying being single. I just don't have time to focuse on trying to find a girlfriend. I'm very focused on work.'
All throughout yesterday, AnnaLynne was shooting scenes for the new series of 90210, showing off her fantastic figure in a black halter-neck top bikini and matching bottoms.

Talking about the pregnancy storyline, AnnaLynne said recently: 'We have completely new show runners. So if they are going to want to get in good with me, they are going to have to make sure that I don't have to wear a big bump for nine months!
