Rodney King was detained Tuesday on  suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. Police officials  say officers pulled King over Tuesday afternoon on Frederick Street near  the Moreno Valley town center. Rodney King is an  American best known for his involvement in a police brutality case  involving the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on March 3, 1991. 
A bystander, George Holliday, videotaped much of the incident from a  distance. It was the video tape that shook Los Angeles and the entire  nation.
Now, 20 years after the Rodney King beating, KTLA looks back at that  fateful night. The nine minutes of grainy video footage he captured of  Los Angeles police beating Rodney King helped to spur dramatic reforms  in a department that many felt operated with impunity.
