FHM: "Pass the sick bucket"

Now, I know that I usually ramble on about the obvious side of the fashion industry, but seeing as I want to be a fashion/beauty journalist I think I need to start featuring more feature related blog posts as well as my usual updates on clothing and cosmetics. I want to write about things that really touch on the latest debates and controversies in the fashion industry and how it affects our everyday society.

I was reading the Daily Mail earlier and I spotted the headline "Pass the sick bucket" with a picture of a beautiful model. I was slightly confused at first, as to why this breath taking woman had this tag line above her. As I read the story, I learnt that this "woman" was in fact a man and had been entered at 98th of FHM's 100 Sexiest Women.  Andrej Pejic was born in August 1991 and raised in Australia, where he was scouted while working in McDonald's.

All images and quotes belong to Daily Mail & FHM.

This isn't what the main story is about though, the issue raised in the Daily Mail, was how the FHM team described the model.

'Designers are hailing him as the next big thing,' says FHM 'We think "thing" is quite accurate.'

After verbally harassing Pejic, FHM then continued to humiliate him by commenting on his aspirations to join Victoria Secret. "He hopes one day to be a Victoria Secret model (Pass the sick bucket). Well, he might have a hard time keeping it a secret then."

After reading this article, I am actually shocked and disgusted at how the writer at FHM has a problem with a male model being in their FHM list (which in my opinion is patronising and degrading for women anyway), but yet they never comment on the issue of how the images they publish of women affect the out look of female body image.

They are the reason why girls feel the need to starve themselves to be socially acceptable and to feel attractive to men. I don't understand how this FHM writer can criticise a beautiful model who is creating a successful career for himself but yet not say anything about how women are degraded and sold as simply sex objects in their magazines.

It drives me crazy how society has been forced to accept the role women have to play in the male magazine industry and how it would seem odd and strange to challenge this role.
I don't know whether it's because I'm tired or need something to eat, but after reading that article it made me so angry.

Basically, that particular FHM writer was saying that you don't have the right to be comfortable in your own skin, as long as your the correct gender and half naked in a padded bra?

I just think men magazines need a reality check when it comes to them judging what is beautiful or not.

Natalie Cassidy's fianc admits assault

Filed under:

PA

Natalie Cassidy's fiancé has admitted attacking her with a slipper and a mascara pen during a violent row at their home.

Adam Cottrell, 31, appeared at Hertford Magistrates Court yesterday to plead guilty to two charges of assault by beating.
And he is claimed to have gone into a rage twice at the home the couple shared with their baby daughter, striking her upper arm with a slipper and daubing her with mascara on April 13 and then grabbing her and ripping her top the second time on May 20.

After the second incident former EastEnders actress Natalie went to stay with family and asked Adam to leave their home.

He is claimed to have then "smashed the place up" - although a charge of criminal damage has been dropped.

Cottrell's sentencing has been adjourned until probation reports have been received.

He will appear before the court again next month and a custodial sentence has not been ruled out. He must not contact Natalie in the interim.

She is reported to have stopped wearing her engagement ring since the last incident.

Elizabeth Taylor's Long Time Crib Officially Listed

Last week Your Mama briefly mentioned that recently deceased Dame Elizabeth Taylor's long-time Los Angeles mansion?in a particularly posh section of Bel Air?had been hoisted on the market with an asking price of $8,600,000.

At that time an interweb listing for the approximately 7,000 square foot two-story ranch was not available. Now it is.

Listing information for the 1.27 acre estate reveals that the gated driveway sweeps past a guard house?manned by Israeli security personnel according to an article in the June 2011 issue of Vanity Fair?to a stone-paved motor court where, in one of the listing photos, the late Miz Taylor's big ol' Maybach can be see parked in front of the front-facing garage.

Inside the large but architecturally modest mansion violet-eyed Miz Taylor lived in cozy but billionaire-style splendor surrounded by antique Aubusson rugs, a lifetime of showbiz memorabilia and a blue chip art collection that includes works by impressionist mac-daddies like Van Gogh, Modigliani, Pissarro and Manet. Miz Taylor's family?a hodgepodge quartet of children from three of her seven husbands, 10 grandchildren and a handful of great-grandchildren?oft gathered for holidays and family events at the sprawling manse that includes a living room with fireplace and beamed ceiling, dining room, and additional sitting room, a galley-style country kitchen and home office converted from what was once a screening room.

There are two family bedrooms with garden access on the main floor, plus a master suite and staff quarters. The second floor has two more smaller family bedrooms plus Miz Taylor's private boo-dwar, comprised of bedroom with sitting area wrapped in lavender fabric, a private bathroom and an adjacent dressing room/beauty salon where Miz Taylor's devoted cadre of mostly gay minions would do her up pretty for her increasingly rare public appearances and occasional trips to gay watering holes like The Abbey in West Hollywood.

The perfectly groomed grounds and terraced gardens include a sparkly mosaic tile-lined swimming pool, small greenhouse for orchid cultivation, rose gardens, more gardens filled with gardenias, lilies of the valley and birds of paradise, a koi pod with waterfall and a secret bamboo jungle.
