Now even your work-out can be bad for you: The dangers of extreme exercising

By Daisy Dumas

Buff: Jake Gyllenhaal and Heidi Montag are extreme exercisers. Gyllenhaal became addicted while training for Prince of Persia while Montag exercised for up to 14 hours a day before the MGM Grand pool party last month

We all know that exercising is a vital part of staying healthy.

But, even when it comes to fitness, anything in excess can be damaging.

A worrying new trend points to some Americans over-exercising, in what is known as ‘extreme exercising’.

High-profile addicts include Hollywood actor, Jake Gyllenhaal, and reality TV star, Heidi Montag.

Gyllenhaal, who completely transformed his body for the buff title role in Prince of Persia, admitted in March that he became addicted to exercise after working out for the blockbuster movie.

In an interview with Men’s Journal, the ‘cardio monster’ said he even suffered shin splints and has ‘had to teach [him]self to slow down a bit.’

Montag has replaced an apparent addiction to plastic surgery with a hours at the gym. Following drastic facial augmentation in 2009 - in which she underwent 10 dangerous procedures in a single day - Heidi Montag told ABC News in an interview last year that she ‘almost risked everything, all my relationships and myself, for vanity.’

Whether or not driven by the same urge, the fake-breasted celeb reportedly worked out for up to 14 hours a day before the MGM Grand's Wet Republic VIP pool party in Las Vegas last month.

Her dedication to the gym has raised alarm with experts.

Fitness expert, Michael Shaw, owner of New York Personal Training, told MailOnline, 'Like anything in the extreme, extreme exercise is a problem.'

'The most obvious danger is injury, overusing and overloading joints. The body's not meant to withstand that type of training.'

He says that the central nervous system can be affected, causing sleeplessness, while problems can also arise from 'the body not being fuelled right.'

Perhaps most worrying is his observation that extreme exercisers 'tend to have an unrealistic view of what the body is', suffering from body dismorphia.

Extreme exercise can lead to anorexia athletica, when working out becomes compulsive.

Addicted: Extreme exerciser, Brooke Mora, works out for up to 30 hours a week

Shaw recommends that his clients do not work out for more than 45 minutes to an hour at any one time.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends just 2 and a half hours of moderate aerobic activity a week for adults, while the American College of Sports Medicine recommends doing moderately intense cardio 30 minutes a day, five days a week, or vigorously intense cardio 20 minutes a day, three days a week.

Both Gyllenhaal and Montag's work-out routines far exceed the recommendations – and it's not limited to celebrities, either.

In an interview with Good Morning America, extreme exerciser Brooke Mora described how a bad break-up lead to a fitness compulsion.

Forgetting the balanced lifestyle mantra, 'everything in moderation', the 31 year old works out for up to 30 hours a week, fitting training in before and after work and on her lunchbreak.

Daisy Lowe to swap the catwalk for the centrefold as she prepares to strip off for Playboy

By Daily Mail Reporter

Angel is a centrefold: Daisy Lowe is set to strip off for the September issue of Playboy

She recently admitted that it took her a while to get used to her curves and accept that she wasn't as skinny as her fellow models.

But now, Daisy Lowe's womanly figure is set to be celebrated in one of the world's most famous publications.

The young star is believed to be stripping off and baring all for Playboy magazine.

According to reports, Lowe, 22, the daughter of designer Pearl and rocker Gavin Rossdale, will strip off for the September issue of the publication.

According to Spinner.com, Daisy will follow in the footsteps of rock icon Mick Jagger‘s daughter, Elizabeth Jagger, who was recently featured in a nude shoot for the mag.

Daisy, who is dating Doctor Who star Matt Smith, will fly to California and do the shoot at founder Hugh Hefner's famous Playboy mansion.

Young love: But what will boyfriend Matt Smith make of her Playboy shoot?

This will not be the first time that Daisy has stripped off for her job.

In 2009, she bared all for i-D Magazine and the previous December she stripped off for Paradis Magazine.

She also walked the catwalk for Agent Provocateur in nothing more than knickers and nipple tassels.

And she appeared in last year's Pirelli calendar and said she really enjoyed getting her clothes off.

She said: 'It was quite freeing, being able to be naked for a week.'

Daisy is clearly more than comfortable in nothing but her birthday suit for the camera.

However, she has kept her modelling tasteful since meeting Smith, 28.

And while her liberal mother Pearl may not disapprove, as long as it's done tastefully, it is still uncertain what her father will make of it.

Parental advice: While mother Pearl may not be too bothered, it's unclear how father Gavin will react

That's one hot (grand)moma! Britney's mother Lynne Spears defies her 56 years in swimsuit snap

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

In good shape: Britney's mother Lynne Spears looked in great shape as she played with her grandchildren in a hotel pool in Dallas

She may have three children and three grandchildren but one thing is for sure - Britney's mother Lynne Spears is looking in great shape for her 56 years.

The grandmother who has penned two books with her daughter showed off her fabulous figure in a black swimsuit as she played in the pool with her grandchildren.

Lynne was looking trim in the low cut one-piece as she enjoyed spending some quality time with the little ones in a Dallas hotel pool.

And Britney’s boys Sean Preston, five and Jayden James, four, seem to be having a great time as they pose up against the glass with Britney’s oldest proving quite the swimmer, posing open eyed underwater.

In her arms Lynne is carrying Jamie Lynn’s daughter, three-year old Maddie Briann Aldridge.

The Mississippi-born mother of two has been supporting her oldest daughter Britney on her Femme Fatale tour which will see the 29-year-old on 33-dates across America.

Reviews of the show have been hugely positive, and the star's decision to sing live has been particularly praised.

Britney and her mother haven’t always enjoyed such a close relationship.

Lynne has even written a book about bringing up children in the public eye entitled Through The Storm: A Real Story Of Fame And Family In A Tabloid World.

In the book, she describes her feelings at watching her daughter's public cries for help and her fight to remove Britney's so-called 'manager' Sam Lutfi from her life.

Recalling the night in February 2007 when Britney shaved her head, Lynne told Heat magazine: 'I knew she was hurting, but when I saw this happen, I was in shock. I didn't know what to do.’

Earlier this month it was revealed that Britney’s ex-husband Kevin's family are selling items from their wedding in a bid to cash in on the ill-fated romance.

Kevin Federline’s grandfather, Earl Story, has just put several items up for auction on eBay from K-Fed's glory days with the pop princess.

Among the items up for sale is the elegant invitation to the former couple's wedding, with bids starting at $1,000.

Also included is a hat that Kevin wore to an awards show with his then wife.

Cashing in: Kevin Federline's grandfather is selling items from Britney and Kevin's failed marriage on eBay

There is an invitation to one of Britney's baby showers and 14 wedding pictures, some of which are said to have never been seen before publicly.

Britney and Kevin were married in 2004, at a private residence in Studio City, California, after three months of dating.

The couple had two sons, and were divorced two years after they tied the knot.

A message posted on the eBay auction page says Kevin's grandfather is selling the items 'to help fund his retirement'.

That's not hot! Curvy Paris Hilton steps out in unflattering pink dress

By Holly Thomas

What's going on? Paris Hilton looked unusually curvy when she arrived to join Mario Lopez on stage for Extra at The Grove in LA yesterday

Paris Hilton is known around the world for her enviable svelte frame.

So it was a surprise when she was seen in LA yesterday showing off a curvier figure in a fitted bright pink dress.

Paris was arriving to join Mario Lopez on stage for celebrity entertainment show Extra at shopping mall The Grove in Los Angeles.

That's not hot: While Paris's legs were still looking slim, her bold outfit betrayed an unflattering bump instead of her usually flat stomach

Paris flaunted her toned legs and arms, but the tight dress betrayed a bulge in place of her normally flat stomach.

She teamed her dress with an equally eye catching necklace, with high patent black heels and sunglasses and let her trademark blonde hair fall loose over her shoulders, maintaining her 'Barbie' look.

It is possible that a more relaxed attitude to her diet has led to the change in the star's figure.

Famous friends: Paris continued posing as she chatted to Extra presenter Mario Lopez

Paris has been dating Hangover Part II director Todd Phillips, who she was spotted dining with at Hollywood's Madeo restaurant last night.

Paris dispelled the myth that LA starlets don't touch carbohydrates as she tucked in to lasagne, while Todd ordered the ravioli.

Paris was probably in need of a little relaxation following an alarming break in to her Malibu beach house over the Fourth of July weekend.

She had previously filed a restraining order against the intruder, who was luckily spotted by nearby paparazzi as he tried to enter the building.

Paris said she was thankful that the paparazzi had been there, even though she sometimes finds them 'annoying'.

Looking all white: Paris was also seen shopping in Malibu earlier this week wearing a much more white dress

Always comfortable in front of a camera, Paris recently took part in an edgy photo shoot for V magazine looking much thinner than the paparazzi snaps from The Grove yesterday.

Paris wore heavy make-up and a risqué S&M wardrobe for the V shoot, and was barely recognisable in some of the photos.

Despite being a far cry from her usual look, Paris's slender body was in far greater evidence that it was yesterday, as she bared a perfectly toned stomach under a large Gothic-style coat.
